Hythe Marina Village
The first of all the Marina Villages in the country, was inspired by Port Grimaud near St Tropez in the south of France. Lying on the western shore of Southampton Water, it is a unique development of waterside homes and marina berths surrounding a cluster of village amenities including a variety of shops, a restaurant and a pub.
Sir Christopher Cockrell, inventor of the hovercraft and a longtime resident of Hythe, laid the first brick on 4th December 1984. Today the 45 acre site boasts over 200 houses, with most of the residents keeping a boat on the berth connected to their homes.
